Quiet Bloom

A flower doesn't announce itself. It just opens.

The pieces

Every spring, the Hunza valley turns white and pink. Cherry blossoms cover the orchards for a few weeks, and then they're gone.

Quiet Bloom started there. It was the first thing RAKA ever made, and the first time Gul Nama's stitches left a cushion or a wall hanging and went onto a tee.

A flower doesn't announce itself. It just opens.

The idea

We didn't want a loud first drop. No big graphic, no logo across the chest. Just one small motif, stitched by hand, on a deep black tee.

You notice it when you're close. That was the point.

The motifs were drawn from the blossoms and worked in traditional colour combinations, the kind you'd find on a wedding dress or a cap back home. Same patterns. A different day to wear them.

Phunar

Flower.

A 2.5 inch square on the left chest, over the heart. The first motif RAKA ever made.

One motif, stitched in 18 colourways. Same pattern every time, but the thread changes, so no two shirts in the drop look alike. You picked the colour, not the size of the statement.

North Star

The fixed point.

A 4 inch square at the centre of the back. Where Phunar stays close, North Star faces outward. It's the one people see as you walk away.

In the mountains, you find your way by what doesn't move. This was ours.

Together

One at the heart. One at the back. One you keep. One you carry.

Quiet Bloom was a beginning, and it was meant to feel like one: small, sure, and unhurried.

How it's made

The motif

Hand embroidered in Gilgit-Baltistan. No two identical.

The tee

Deep black, drop-shoulder, relaxed fit. Cut and stitched in Lahore.

The sleeve mark

راکا, tone-on-tone. You have to be close to read it.

The campaign

  • Yellow Northstar worn, seen from the back, a feathered cap, trees beyond a terrace wall
  • Green and Navy Northstar hanging one above the other from a tree, seen from the back
  • Sky and Pink Northstar hanging one above the other from a tree, seen from the back

It bloomed once. We're listening for whether it should bloom again.
